Window card with Winter Memories

I think this was the favorite card at Technique Club this month! We used several techniques in a 'Re-deaux' theme and added a new technique as well - 'Sugar Dusted." This card uses Pretty in Pink cardstock for the base and has a large window die cut from the front using the Stampin' Up! Apothecary Accents Framelits. With a snowflake stamped Window Sheet, you get a peek inside at the winter scene from Winter Memories stamp set.

Sugar Dusted is a term coined by my friend and incredible stamper, Jacque. It is simply the sponging on the edges of the tags which are then covered in VersaMark Ink, Heat and Stick Powder and Dazzling Diamonds to create a sparkling, glittering loveliness.

We sponged Perfect Plum ink on the tag on the front of the card and also onto the Apothecary Accents framelit piece on the inside of the card. Then we drug the VersaMark Ink pad over the edges, quite heavily to be sure we got a good coverage around the perimeter of the piece. VersaMark is what makes the Heat and Stick Powder 'stick.' These VersaMarked edges are dipped in Heat and Stick Powder, with the excess tapped off, and then heated JUST until shiny with a Heat Gun. The Heat and Stick Powder is like Embossing Powder Glue - the Heat Gun activates the glue and makes it sticky. Then we covered this with Dazzling Diamonds Ultra Fine Glitter, tapped off the excess and gave it one last quick shot of the Heat Gun to set it a little. The result is a beautiful, lightly colored and completely glittery edge!

To get the crinkle and ruffle in the White Taffeta Ribbon here, first tie the bow and then use the Heat Gun to heat the ribbon just until it starts to melt. This Heated Ribbon technique works well on Taffeta and Satin ribbons but not on other ribbons with a high cotton content.

The Window Sheet is stamped with snowflakes from Snowflake Soiree and White StazOn ink. White StazOn ink is used because Classic and Craft inks will not dry on the Window Sheet. The White StazOn pad comes with its own Re-inker and that is because you will want to re-ink the pad each time before using it. It dries out quickly.
