Stampin' Addicts Birthday Blog Hop - Techniques

Thank you for stopping by for the Stampin' Addicts Birthday Blog Hop - Techniques! If you arrived here from Tanya's Tinkerin' Ink blog, I know you loved her Faux Letterpress projects! I also have a listing of all the blogs at the bottom of this post. My Technique is using Shimmer Paint - an acid-free Pigment Ink. There are three different Shimmer Paint colors offered by Stampin' Up! - Frost White, Champagne and Platinum - my projects all feature Frost White Shimmer Paint, but in different applications.

My first Birthday card features Frost White Shimmer Paint on the outside AND the inside. After I die cut this cupcake with the Big Bold Cupcake Sizzlets for the Big Shot, I ran the base through the Crimper and the top through the Big Shot again in the Polka Dots Texture Folder. Then I swiped all the pieces with some Frost White Shimmer Paint and set it aside to dry. The candle flames also have a bit of Shimmer Paint.


Yesterday on my blog, I posted a close-up photo where you can see a bit of the shine and sparkle from the Shimmer Paint coating. It's so hard to capture in a photo, but I just love the look of it in person. To see the inside of this card with coloring using a Blender Pen and Shimmer Paint, check my blog post next week when I'll share the inside of this card and more details on how I used the Shimmer Paint.





This card uses Frost White Shimmer Paint added Direct to Rubber on the stamps from Inspired by Nature, using a Sponge Dauber and picking up the paint from the inside of the lid. The Shimmer Paint bottles have a little shaker ball in them and you should shake the bottle each time before you use the Shimmer Paint.  The Platinum and Frost White Shimmer Paints are more opaque than the Champagne Shimmer Paint and give a great contrast and sparkle on dark cardstocks.

One of my favorite ways to use Shimmer Paint is to put a few drops of it into a fine mist spray bottle with Rubbing Alcohol to create a Shimmer Paint Spray that I spray on my cards or projects - it gives instant shine and is the perfect finish to every card and 3D project - be careful, you'll be addicted to using Shimmer Paint Spray on everything you stamp!

This is the #2 Box for the Big Shot. I added texture with the Polka Dot Texture Folder and then wrapped it with a Daffodil Delight Satin Ribbon Bow and a Bigz Fun Flower from the Occasions Mini, on the top. The Fun Flower is spritzed with Shimmer Paint Spray and it has a gorgeous sparkle - hopefully you can get a glimpse of it on a few of the petals. I'll have more details in my blog post next week as well.

Finally, this card features WaterColor Wonder Crayons and Frost White Shimmer Paint with the Awash with Flowers stamp set. These are both applied Direct to Rubber  The Shimmer Paint moistens the Crayon color and you have Shimmer Color! I stamped the outline images in the corresponding Classic Ink.


The Happy Birthday sentiment is also stamped with Crayons and Shimmer Paint to match. Yesterday on my blog I posted a close-up photo to try to capture a bit of the texture and shimmer. Can you see that subtle shimmer and shine from the Shimmer Paint layered over the colors from the WaterColor Wonder Crayons?

I wish I could share these projects with you in person! You just have to try Shimmer Paint and a few of these techniques for yourself so you can see the beautiful shimmer effect you can easily add to your stamped projects.
